Ubuntu rocks, but its a little too complex

Ubuntu rocks! I had requested for free cd’s from Canonical, the owners of Ubuntu, and it took them just 10 days to send me three cd’s from the Netherlands. But the problem with Ubuntu is that its too difficult to use in the office environment.

My personal PC, an Acer 2400, has some hardware issues with Ubuntu 7.04, especially with playback of .avi files. And I dont have too much patience to wait for replies from message boards.

Another major issue is extracting archive files and then installing software. I think I need to spend some more time getting used to it, and be patient with it. It’s worth it.

  1. Just a few quick tips:

    1. Normally, you don’t extract archives to install packages in Ubuntu. It’s easier than that: Click on the System menu -> Administration -> Synaptic package manager. Enter your password, and there you are: Browse through the package categories or do a search to get what you want, click on the packages to mark them for installation, and finally click Apply. That’s it.

    2. Playback of .avi-files is normally a software, not a hardware issue. Mail me, and I’ll be glad to assist you.

    Happy Ubuntuing!
